My STS-01 certificate has expired. What should I do?

Remember the conversion you did on your CRO certificate? It allowed you to obtain from the ENAC website the two EASA OPEN category certificates: the UAS A1-A3 certificate and the UAS A2 certificate.
Did you also notice another certificate listed under the "UAS A2" entry in your ENAC portal?
That is the STS-01 certificate, the certificate for standard scenarios required to operate in compliance with the rules in the Specific category.

Many of these certificates, however, show an expiry date of "December 2023" and now, in the new year, many of our course participants have asked us how to proceed.
First of all, let us reassure you right away: there is no STS certificate renewal to be done.
As stated in the ENAC provision, in fact, the expiry of these certificates has been extended to 31 December 2025.
So, what needs to be done?
There is a "but".
Although the expiry has been extended and, up to 1 January 2026, renewal is not an issue, STS certificates will still be unusable if the UAS pilot has not first obtained the Aeronautical Communications and Crew Resource Management certificates, issued by a recognised training centre, obtained by attending the relevant Radiotelephony and CRM courses.
Therefore the Radiotelephony and CRM certificates are a prerequisite for flying in standard scenarios, if you already hold the STS certificate obtained after converting from the old CRO certificates.
