We recently talked about how a telescopic pole can help us with wildlife and nature shots, but also how it can be a great source of inspiration and a considerable technical aid for interior shots and panoramas (all of this in the article 3 tips to make the best use of a telescopic pole for different types of shots).
In reality, telescopic poles, especially the lighter and more manageable fibreglass ones like the Magicpole, are tools that allow you to work safely when taking aerial shots.
While in some respects, and for obvious reasons, they have neither the potential of a drone, nor of a glider, let alone a hot-air balloon in terms of elevation, they offer, in terms of safety and compliance with regulations, a guarantee that other aerial photography tools do not provide, or only provide after long and indispensable testing.
But in what ways are telescopic poles safer?
- Adverse weather conditions.
We don't only mean snowstorms or tornadoes! A drone or a glider, for example, is quite complex to use, or it is even impossible to use it in the presence of wind alone. The stability and handling guaranteed by a good ground-anchoring system, on the other hand, make it possible to capture, for example, beautiful landscapes swept by moderately strong winds.
- Compliance with regulations
While all remotely piloted aircraft must comply with regulations, which are also still evolving, this is not necessary in the case of telescopic poles. You can photograph crowded beaches, squares and concerts (do it with a drone and you face very heavy fines), making the most of the pole's verticality at full extension, thanks to a very simple swivel head.
- Safety for your camera
Your precious work tool is safe on a telescopic pole. Accidents are unlikely, no parachutes are needed, and the sturdiness of these ultra-light tools is worthy of a highly engineered product. Thanks to the universal Manfrotto mount, all types of cameras can be secured safely, and by connecting a remote control device to the camera you can also frame the perfect shot and choose the best angle and moment to shoot, comfortably from the ground.
And you, what kind of shots would you take with your telescopic pole?
