Since ancient times, businesses have used various means to promote themselves and make themselves known: billboards, often in varied colours designed to catch the attention of the passer-by; flyers and/or brochures describing in detail the functionality and effectiveness of a given product; and, as the years went by, giant illuminated screens with eye-catching visual and sound effects, capable of distracting anyone's concentration. But at what cost, and with what return?
Over the years, human ingenuity has always looked for the best ways to capture the attention of a target audience.
To this end, here are the various tools that have always been used to "advertise yourself":
As you can see, most of these advertising means are not very expensive, but sometimes they do not deliver the long-awaited results (the so-called ROI, return on investment). Let's see why…
Advertising on the media is very expensive. For TV and newspapers we are talking about several thousand euros for just a small space. And then? How many people will see that ad? With traditional media there is no real feedback. Investing in the media is therefore costly and the ROI cannot be known.
Flyer distribution. Local target, low average price… but at what return? Sometimes the person doing the flyer round leaves the flyers in the most unlikely places, where perhaps nobody even notices them or where your flyer gets lost among a thousand others. Result? Maybe a nice flyer, but poor results and a low ROI.
Door-to-door salespeople. An excellent solution… unfortunately it is very slow and has costs that are unthinkable for a small business owner. Still, it is a great idea to use this approach if the market is already known and you need to build loyalty among your customers.
Let's look instead at 3 things to do to win new customers in a simple, fairly quick way and at a low cost.
