DJI Air 2. What's new?

Published on 2 min read By AerialClick

Archive article. Article from 2021: some of the models mentioned are no longer in production. Today the equivalent model is DJI Air 3S. Discover DJI Air 3S

The DJI Air 2S. From the name alone, it is clear that it will be the evolution of the DJI Mavic Air 2 and that, like some of the latest DJI products (such as the DJI Mini 2 and the DJI Pocket 2), it drops the prefix indicating the series it belongs to from its name.

But why are we talking about innovation? And what are the features that make it unique and worthy of the DJI brand? Let's find out together.

The features of the new DJI Air 2S

The new DJI Air 2S will look very similar to the DJI Mavic Air 2, but it will have technical improvements that will make it better suited to professional use.
Among the new features, it is first worth mentioning the new camera the drone is equipped with, featuring a 1" 20MP sensor, unlike the DJI Mavic Air 2, which has a 1/2" 48 MP camera.
With it you will be able to shoot 5.4K video (5472x3078), a quality never before reached by the DJI Mavic series.
The DJI Air 2S will most likely be compatible with the new DJI Goggles v2, the immersive-view headset released at the same time as the DJI FPV drone, and will feature the OcuSync 3.0 transmission system.

Not enough for you?
Take a look at the rest of the expected features of the new DJI Air 2S:

  • Takeoff weight: 595 grams
  • Camera sensor: 1" CMOS 20 MP
  • Maximum photo resolution: 5472x3648 px
  • Maximum video resolution: 5.4K, 5472x3078 24/25/30
  • Flight time: 31 minutes
  • Battery capacity: 3,500 mAh
  • Maximum transmission distance: 12 km (FCC) 8 km (CE/SRRC/MIC)
  • Spotlight 2.0
  • Point of Interest 3.0
  • ActiveTrack 4.0
  • Operating temperature from 0 to 40° C

The innovations introduced will certainly make it technologically more advanced than the DJI Mavic Air 2. Under the new EASA regulation, given the probable lack of the CE marking on the drone, it would fall into category A3 starting from 2023.

The drone's release date?
Probably the one shown in this image uploaded today by DJI.
