The wait seems to be about over: DJI tipster Twitter recently posted a short but very interesting Tweet about it: “Mavic Mini 2 is coming”.
Predictions reveal many improvements, and this has stirred the interest of everyone who has long promised themselves to buy it. Already when the first Mavic Mini was released on the market, it was immediately welcomed with enthusiasm.
Fast, high-performing and unique for working in the city, with enormous power in a form of just 249 grams, excellent still images and color accuracy with 2.7K video and 30 minutes of flight.
It was extraordinary to see how much technology there was in such a small and harmless device, so much so that it seemed unthinkable it could be improved in such a short time.
The current price of €399 is also particularly attractive for a drone that can do a lot of things.
A Pro version of the much-loved Mavic Mini has been talked about for some time and it will probably be available soon, ready to be used for both private and other purposes. Although not all the features of the new Mavic Mini 2 have been announced yet, some hypotheses seem entirely plausible.
If we compare the features with those of the current Mavic Mini model, we must assume that the weight will not change in general terms.
Under ENAC regulations, all drones used for hobby purposes weighing more than 250 grams require registration and a licence. DJI is increasingly committed to making these models particularly lightweight, and there is also strong demand for drones weighing less than 250 grams, so it is unlikely that this second generation of Mavic Mini will be made heavier.
As for the shape, here too it is likely to remain similar to the previous one, with foldable arms and a general appearance that is still in the Mavic style. But we will surely have plenty of other improvements elsewhere. As for the camera, the current sensor captures 2.7K video and takes 12MP photos. These are already impressive figures, but DJI can be expected to push beyond these limits in this respect. These upgrades will not add significant weight, and the capabilities of the sensor itself keep increasing steadily.
The original Mavic Mini can already capture several styles of QuickShots, following a subject and performing a movement based on the pattern. Although not infallible when it comes to tracking, it already delivers a good shot.
Well, the new-generation model we are interested in will have a better AI designed specifically to work in the city and, probably, a better processor to handle the tasks.
The flight time during tracking, which currently stands at 30 minutes for the original Mavic Mini, will also be even better in the new version of the Mavic Mini 2.
As for the price, finally, the current price of the Mavic Mini at €399 is already an interesting price for a solid entry-level drone with excellent features, including GPS and GLONASS. Making the controller optional could certainly help lower the price, although we definitely would not want to give up that option.
We therefore expect a price more or less in line with that of the original Mavic Mini, perhaps with some attractive discounts around the Christmas period.
In the meantime, we are enjoying all the good things that the Mavic Mini still gives all of us enthusiasts.
