Puglia, Liguria and Tuscany are the three regions of Italy that have invested the most in territorial promotion through aerial footage. Here are the reasons and the results.
They circulate in huge numbers online, get thousands of likes, manage to move, captivate and keep viewers on the edge of their seats, and in some cases simply offer a few moments of daydreaming and relaxation. These are the aerial footage videos of territories all over Italy that are promoted this way by local authorities and private companies.
But which are the most "filmed from above" territories in Italy?
Searching on Google with keywords such as AERIAL VIDEO-PROMOTION, DRONE-ESTATE, DRONE-FARM STAY, and similar combinations, the absolute predominance of the Puglia Region and its facilities immediately stands out.
It is followed, albeit at a due distance, by Liguria and Tuscany.
The three regions mentioned have made the enhancement of their scenic beauty and agro-ecology the cornerstones of their year-round incoming tourism industry. The drones and GoPros used allow, at a negligible cost compared to traditional commercial sets, footage with enormous promotional as well as informative potential.
Remotely piloted aircraft are part of the technical imagination of the people of Puglia, also thanks to the region's flourishing film industry. Recently the director Ozpetek, nothing short of in love with Salento, used a drone to shoot his latest hit 'Allacciate le Cinture' (Fasten Your Seatbelts) with the beautiful Kasia Smutniak.
Cinema is now one of the many sources of territorial promotion (and Tuscany of Pieraccioni and Benigni knows something about that too), and a drone makes it possible to associate the image of the territory itself with that of film sets.
If small and medium-sized business owners and local authorities are willing to invest in this type of promotion, it is because the benefits are many and immediate.
In just a few minutes (sometimes even less than a minute, with even better results), an aerial shot can inform with great speed and concision about the type of territory and help in choosing a destination (rocky beaches? No, I prefer sand. Lots of flat land for relaxing walks or hills for trekking? Will it be a suitable area for a person with a disability? etc.).
Of course, good editing and a nice soundtrack can help give the images evocative power and therefore persuade the future traveller to choose a territory, an accommodation facility, an area to visit and discover.
If you add to all this the speed with which a well-made video travels around the web today, the cocktail for promotional success is ready.
But how do you make a good tourism promotion video with a drone?
