Spectacular footage for sports enthusiasts and real help for people with motor disabilities.
Here is how drones are bringing a breath of fresh air to the world of accessibility.
Have you ever been to the Lucanian Dolomites for the Flight of the Angel? Have you ever been rafting?
If so, you will have taken, and had taken of you, some beautiful photos. But it is probably hard for them to truly convey the adrenaline you felt in those moments. That is why some of the facilities offering these activities are starting to equip themselves with small cameras mounted on the equipment used, as in the case of the eagle-flight zip lines. And the most forward-looking are starting to buy or rent small drones.
Individual biking and snowboarding enthusiasts, too, are increasingly users of these tools, which fit in this way and in several other curious ways into a project that unites sport and tourism.
To many it may seem strange, perhaps absurd, to associate extreme sports and adventurous tourism with people with motor disabilities. Yet today, thanks to apps and interactive maps that map accessible routes, more and more young wheelchair users do not want to give up adventure and discovery. And even in these cases quadcopters can meet that curiosity and desire to explore.
Just think of the possibility of attaching a GoPro or a small video camera to a mini quadcopter that can enter caves, crypts, tunnels of historical and cultural value and other wonderful natural areas where a wheelchair has to stop.
Given the speed at which drone-related applications are being tested and improved, we can be certain that in the coming years any agency website that promotes and organises excursions, or any tourism body that calls itself a promoter of accessible tourism, will not be able to do without producing, or commissioning, ad hoc videos that present the area in all its features and that can visually demonstrate, in detail, the levels of accessibility for every type of disability, motor or sensory.
And so the journey will be able to go on for everyone, even if perceived in a different way.
Because beauty is more complete when more eyes can admire it.
