From regional tourism promotion to real estate, more and more companies are choosing aerial photos to promote their products.
Here is why.
Over the last 10 years promotion and marketing have changed a great deal. You don't need a sociologist or a communication sciences graduate to work out why: with the advent of social networks, leisure time (and not only that) has become ever more tied to virtual space, where we can look up our main sources of interest. Only the big multinationals still follow the path of TV advertising and 6x3 billboard visuals, and even they never give up Google and social network ad campaigns.
Social networks and the web are where ever faster messages travel, and these are nothing without multimedia support, such as images and video. Just think not only of Facebook's implementations regarding everything that concerns photos (from cover photos to the wider frames for shots linked to posts and news) but also of the rise of more recent social media such as Instagram, Pinterest, Dronestagram and Google Plus, specifically designed to communicate through video and images. Technically excellent photos are no longer what matters; what you need is to go viral! Because of this new and growing need for everyday exceptionality, the number of small and medium-sized businesses turning to aerial footage and photography is increasing, to tell the story of their products and grow their brand.
Once, only regional tourism boards used video and footage shot from above to promote the cultural and geographic heritage of a given area. Then, panoramic videos of coastlines and cities of art were joined by footage of private historic villas, used for organising events and ceremonies.
In the latter case, the need is not only expressive but also functional, since the staff involved in organising events and ceremonies, when searching for the setting, prefer to have as clear and complete an idea as possible of the available spaces before carrying out actual site visits.
A broadly similar need is felt by real estate companies; from online listings of homes for sale or rent, where the proposed spaces must be shown at their best, to the sale of luxury properties to foreign investors, a great many private individuals and companies present their properties with the help of images taken from 3-5 metres up and even, in the case of very large spaces, footage from small, light drones that travel at human height and walking pace through the areas to be sold to the Russian magnate or to the uncle from America who decides to buy a home in Tuscany.
Then there are the first pioneers with different and particular ideas, which quickly go viral, if only for their originality. Aerial fashion is becoming a new frontier of fashion visual marketing, as shown by the video of a free-fall fashion show recently released by the brand Robrta Mancino.
